Who do the characters in Animal Farm by George Orwell represent in the Russian Revolution?

I just need to know who Muriel, the cat, wild animals, Frederick, Pilkington, Whymper represent and WHY. Thanks in advance for any help!

  1. Mr Pilkington represents the western powers, possibly the UK Mr. Frederick is Adolf Hitler (buying the wood with forged money) Mr. Whymper is based on western intellectuals, primarily george bernard shaw Muriel could be another intellectual, in that she stays clear of the purges, but no real idea whom she directly represents
  2. I agree that Frederick is Hitler (or, Germany in general). Pilkington is the UK. I'm not sure about Whymper. He's a kind of go-between, setting up trade for Animal Farm. Muriel represents the more intelligent "lower animals". However, she remains loyal, and we never know if she is purposely misreading the other animals, when she reads the commandments with words added. The cat is simply an individualist-unwilling to give up his way of life (Hunting, fishing, not being involved with agriculture), as the new way actually feeds him less well. The wild animals were similar, but were mostly those who had already formed their own small farms, and, likewise, couldn't see the superiority of the Animal Farm system. (However, they would accept help during times of bad harvest).
